Émigré après la guerre de 14-18, il débute dans les studios de Walter Lantz (Woody Woodpecker). En 1931, il est engagé chez Disney et travaille comme animateur depuis Le Vilain Petit Canard, la même année. Il signe son premier court métrage Pique-nique sur la Plage avec Donald et Pluto. Il devient responsable de la série des Pluto et décroche l'oscar pour Donne la patte. Il devient le superviseur et le coréalisateur des principaux longs métrages des studios de 1950 à 1959, Cendrillon, Alice aux pays des merveilles, Peter Pan, La Belle et le Clochard et La Belle au bois dormant. Dessins graciles, humour gentil, grands sentiments et scénarios aseptisés sont la marque de fabrique de Geronimi. Il passe le relais à Wolfgang Reitherman après Les 101 Dalmatiens. Il travaille ensuite pour la télévision où il participe à des séries de courts métrages de Mister Magoo, Linus le lion amoureux et Spider-Man. Il prend sa retraite au début des années 70. Homme de l'ombre des studios, ce formidable animateur va influencer durablement le look des films Disney.
Clyde Geronimi est décédé à Newport Beach (Californie), le 24 avril 1989.
